Features of the watch: Reference: 3646 / Type D Dial: “Kampfschwimmer” (sandwich, anonymous) Case number: 260579 Movement: Rolex Cal. 618 / Type 1 From the early 1940's, this piece was made for an elite team of *German Navel frogmen or **Italian Navy frogmen that rode on the outside of a small two manned submarine. The watch was made in a very large 47 mm case and the numerals were painted within a sandwich dial a glowing Radiomir substance.Panerai developed the reference 3646 in collaboration with Rolex for the Royal Italian Navy, in particular for their Frogmen who needed a reliable and legible watch in the extreme conditions endured during long and deep water diving.
